I used to play this game all the time in middle school. I was always better than my peers at both math and computers at that age, so I was owning all the high score boards on like every Mac in the lab. It was such a great game. Miss those days of simpler games like Oregon Trail, Number Munchers, Bridge Builder, and Carmen Sandiego.
Unfortunately her offer was just in jest and she went back to following her path around the bar.
If I were to judge my chance of playing the sequel just on this, I wouldn't play it, but Rockstar games are generally at least worth trying. So I'll probably play it eventually.
I TOTALLY remember playing this! And it was awesome. I could never get past the last level though, you're meant to flip Scar over your back and I just didn't know how to do it. Somehow my brother did it once.
Bastard, it was MY game!!!
good choice to keep playing - I'm actually level 32 and still keeping interest on the play
I guess putting some puzzles here and there would not ruined the game but very solid and fun game nonetheless
I played this game HEAPS a few years back (same with Two Towers, as I recall...) as I was an avid Lord of the Rings fan at the time. I got stuck at King of the Dead, Minas Tirith: Top of the Wall and Cirith Ungol. I decided to look up cheats, which made it loads better. O suggest you try IGN, although I don't remember which site I used...
P.S. I have it for PS2, so the cheats arw3e probably different...
Why the hell did you bother posting a single hour of gameplay? I've been playing for about 50-60 hours (I don't usually bother with numbers...) and i've still got heaps to do (Skillwise, that is, i've finished the storyline) and I still would'nt bother posting a history of my gameplay, even if I could rememer it all.
It would definitely help people conceptualize the experience in lieu of something like a video walkthrough (which I still don't know how to integrate particularly well). And text is much faster/more convenient for many readers.
I always feel like I'm so long winded on these things. But I have such a hard time trimming. For me, the first hour reviews are way harder to do than a standard full review.
This makes sense. When I tried, it was normal difficulty with like 7 people and even with the 1 second lag there were no worries about dying. Really anything under 100ms should be okay but this game does move pretty fast...
It would have been dishonest of me to say I enjoyed the game, and for me to give Hotel Dusk any score other than what I gave it would have been me lying to you. Reviews are opinions, I thought this game was awful, obviously other reviewers liked it.
The Serious Sam series is made to be played co-op. Preferably with several people, on the hardest difficulty, and in a LAN environment. Some of my best gaming memories were made this way, especially with the giant cannon you get later.
Yeah, other game modes exist, but more as a curiosity. HD is a nice upgrade to a game that distills "pure fun" to its bare essentials. Can't say how it plays on a console however; I have a hard time imagining that a controller is up to the task of being adequate to play this frantic game effectively.
You Wouldn't Know A Good Game If It Slapped You in The Face . Sure There Is Alot Of Text But Come On It's Not That Bad Hotel Dusk Got Great Reviews From Ign 8/10 Gamespot 7/10 Others Gave It 8/10 I Trust Ign Before I Trust Some Idiot.
I actually played through most of the game on co-op since this was written. Unfortunately it was with 7 other people on a German server, so it was pretty much a laggy zergfest and not particularly fun.
I won a free download of this game some months back, and I just did not have a good time. Maybe at first, because it was all new to me, but you eventually begin to feel the repetition of going into a room, waiting for monsters to spawn, shoot them, and then do it all again. Plus, those "mooing" bulls nearly made the controller vibrate outta my hands!
Good luck if you continue on. I suspect co-op makes it a more enjoyable experience.

Christmas is heeeeeeere

I didn't realize they were so cartoony. They certainly changed that in the sequel!
I played this game for less than an hour and traded it on Goozex. Didn't do much for me either.
Also, Greg, I noticed that in your review, just after you met the woman who offered you a bath, that Min 52 is missing. Was some content "omitted". ;)
Lastly, I'm curious, did playing this game, now, make you more or less interested in the sequel?

Sorry, now I know why just 1 hour. Forgot to read the other two...

Yeah, 360. I don't play a lot of PC games unless they work in Wine on Linux.
did you have it on PC or 360? (360 I'm guessing)
Perfect timing for this review to go up as I beat it last night!

And yeah, it's just more interesting to read.

Excellent article, very nice descriptions throughout :)

Also I'll have to prove you wrong with a great article I'll be making for next week :P

Steve sucks at math. and games.
